Your Parents Today

  • We are used to our parents and how they run their lives so even “dysfunctional patterns” can seem normal
  • We tolerate their choices because they are so familiar and predictable
  • It’s hard to express our doubt because what we see has always been that way
  • People who grow up in an alcohol or drug using family struggle to:
  • Create some sense of ‘normal’
  • Protect self-esteem, peace of mind, comfort, and safety
