Lesson 31: Parents and Children - Slide 11

Your Parents Today
- We are used to our parents and how they run their lives so even “dysfunctional patterns” can seem normal
- We tolerate their choices because they are so familiar and predictable
- It’s hard to express our doubt because what we see has always been that way
- People who grow up in an alcohol or drug using family struggle to:
- Create some sense of ‘normal’
- Protect self-esteem, peace of mind, comfort, and safety
