Exercise: Family “Hot Buttons”
- Take 5 minutes and using your worksheet:
- List 3 traumatic family-related events of your childhood e.g. divorce, drug abuse
- List 3 things you still feel guilty about from your childhood even if they weren’t your fault. Omit this step if you don’t feel guilty about anything
- List 3 things that still get you angry at your parents
- This quick check can help you see why you still react negatively to your parents
- Use “The Feeling Good Handbook” to help you move on from some of these old emotions
