Learning Through Honest Appraisal

  • Write out the distortions present and write the statements to refute the cognitive distortions that lead to the lapse
  • Do not hide the lapse or throw “shoulds” or shame on yourself; that’s just more cognitive distortion
  • Immediately discuss your lapse with a counsellor or trusted friend
  • Be open to help
  • Stay confident that you can get back on your path
