When Does Change Occur?

  • There is little evidence that accepting a label or diagnosis means a client will change their behaviors
  • Saying they will change does not mean people will change
  • People commonly say one thing and do another
  • Motivation can be better defined as the probability that a person will enter into, continue, and stick with a specific change strategy
