Lesson 9: Food And Relapse Prevention - Slide 21

We Are Not Good At Estimating
- When people estimate almost anything, weight, height, brightness, loudness, sweetness, etc. we consistently underestimate as things get larger
- We’re fairly accurate at estimating weight of a 2 pound rock
- We grossly underestimate the weight of an 80 pound rock
- The smaller the meal, the more accurate people are at estimating its calories level
- The larger the meal, the less accurate
- The more people eat, the less accurate they are, whether they are skinny or obese
- It’s meal size that determines how
accurate we are at estimating
the calories we’ve eaten
