Managing High Risk Situations

  • High risk situations can be managed in 2 ways
  • Avoid them altogether or leave quickly as soon as a high risk situation is noticed
  • Use coping skills to manage the situation and then leave as soon as possible
  • High risk situations that cannot be avoided must be managed
  • Few coping skills and low self efficacy will lead to using drugs or alcohol to cope with a high risk situation
  • You can choose not to drink or use if you develop many ways to meet your needs like friendship and to manage high risk situations like conflict
