Circadian Rhythm:
- Is the daily cycle of sleep and wakefulness
- From the Latin circa diem meaning “about a day”
- Refers to the fact that body rhythm works on a 24 hr pattern
- Circadian rhythms:
- Regulate body functions including digestion, elimination, and sleep
- Are triggered by nerves and chemical messengers
- Are controlled by the hypothalamus in the brain
