Step 2: Reattribute

  • Place the blame for cravings and urges where it belongs and say to yourself:
  • My brain is sending me false messages
  • My brain is not accurately filtering my thoughts and experiences, therefore I react inappropriately to things I know make no sense
  • I can change the way I react to the false message
  • I can make my brain work better, which will improve bad thoughts and feelings
  • If you have an intrusive thought, urge or craving, say: “It’s not me, it’s my brain”
