Siblings Are Different

  • Siblings who grow up together are almost as different in their personalities as if they were strangers
  • Siblings differ for 2 fundamental reasons:
  • They share on average only half of their genes
  • Most of the environmental influences affecting siblings are not shared
  • This is true of the experiences children have outside the family and of those occurring within the home
