Family Members Try To Help The Person Experiencing Addiction

  • Families ‘protect’ the affected member from the consequences of their impaired behaviours by:
  • Accepting behaviours such as alcohol and drug use, violence or failure to function in a responsible manner
  • Taking over the impaired member’s responsibilities, bailing them out of trouble or shielding them from consequences of their behaviour
