Unhealthy Family Rules

  • Reasonable rules provide ethical and moral structure for a child’s development
  • If families are unhealthy:
  • Rules are based on role distortions and bizarre perceptions of reality
  • There is a huge gap between the parent’s expectations and demands and what we really want for ourselves
  • As adults, we can discard rules only after we become aware of them
  • When we can see the rules clearly we exercise free choice
