Relapse Prevention Skills
For Alcohol Abstinence:
- 9. Refuse drinks:
- Practice saying “no” without giving
a double message
- Suggest alternative activities that
do not involve drinking
- Change the subject of conversation
- Ask the person not to offer alcohol anymore
- Plan and practice how to respond in a variety of situations where alcohol may be offered
- Use trusted friends or family to practice drink refusal skills in a safe environment
