Values Influence Whether We Take Action On Information
- Researchers found:
- People respond more to warnings about the probability of the sun’s effect on their appearance than to warnings about the probability of cancer from sun exposure
- Because it appealed to their values, people were more likely to use sun protection after:
- Watching a videotape about how sun exposure causes wrinkles and age spots
- Seeing in a UV photograph
how the sun had already
damaged their faces
