Lesson 15: Relationships and Relapse Prevention - Slide 5
Social Support Is A Critical Determinant Of Relapse
- Negative social support in the form of interpersonal conflict and social pressure to drink or use drugs increases the rate of relapse following treatment
Social pressure to use is experienced:
- Directly in the form of peers trying to convince a person to use
- Indirectly through modeling, a friend orders a drink at dinner
- Through cue exposure such as drug paraphernalia in the house
