- Any substance with addictive potential or mood altering properties can lower your resistance to and precipitate a return to alcohol and drug use
- Individuals vary in the extent to which their resistance is lowered and therefore it is advisable to err on the side of safety for your relapse prevention plan
- Avoid all narcotics or controlled substances and use alternatives for pain control
