Lesson 8: Managing Internal Causes Of Relapse - Slide 27

Emotional States And Relapse
- A negative emotional state is the strongest predictor of relapse in many studies
- Recent studies identified that a negative emotional state is the primary motive for drug and alcohol use
- Drug and alcohol use changes the emotional state and leads the individual to future use
- Continued drug and alcohol use leads to more negative emotional states instead of improved or positive emotional states
