  • Call the intrusive thought or urge exactly what it is:
  • An obsessive thought or a compulsive urge
  • You are:
  • Learning to clearly recognize the reality of the situation and not be tricked by unpleasant feelings
  • Developing the ability to clearly see the difference between what your craving or urge is telling you, and what is reality
  • Stop saying, “I feel I need to drink again, even though I know it doesn’t make any sense”
  • Start saying, “I’m having a compulsive urge. That compulsion is bothering me. That obsessive thought is hounding me”
