  • Self defeating negative thoughts make you feel miserable
  • Painful emotions in turn convince you that your distorted, pessimistic thoughts are actually valid
  • Self-defeating thoughts and actions reinforce each other in a circular manner
  • The unpleasant consequences of doing nothing make your problems even worse
  • Negative distorted thoughts lead to inaction and less action
