Effects Of Heroin On General Health
- Destroys appetite resulting in malnutrition
- Weakens the immune system and ability to fight off infection
- Disrupts the menstrual cycle
- Reduces the body’s ability to produce endorphins
- Endorphins:
- Are the body’s natural pain killers that reduce pain intensity
- Control the appetite
- Cause a feeling of well-being
- Cause the release of sex hormones
- The body doesn’t immediately start producing endorphins once heroin intake is stopped
