Drugs Affect Your Brain And How You Feel

Most recreational drugs mimic the naturally occurring brain substances that produce feelings of well-being, relaxation, pleasure or excitement

  • Heroin works on the same brain receptors that are stimulated by the brain chemicals that control pain
  • Amphetamines and cocaine cause release of dopamine, the brain chemical that produces pleasure and stimulus seeking
